Bernama and The Star’s credibility is being questioned again for falsifying or doctoring pictures to massage the minds of Malaysians that there was a massive gathering of well wishers had gathered to greet the Prime Minister at his Hari Raya Open House.

The Bernama picture on the front page of The Star, 21st August, 2012, is a blatant lie and shows youths in the picture who were surprise and next questioned the picture’s credibility. One youth in the picture said: “I don’t remember seeing such a big crowd and didn’t see tens of thousands of people with me at the open house.

“Bernama’s accomplice, The Star’s photo editors should have seen the doctoring of the picture and not used it,” the youth called me stating that there was no professional in reporting and categorised it as blatant lies to deceive the public.

It is increasingly easy to alter photographs in ways that the public may never know without checking in detail that figures of differing sizes and shapes of faces when critically comparing the foreground and background the crowd.

Bernama in its overzealousness to portray the people’s support for PM Dato Seri Najib Tun Razak altered images, cropping, copying and pasting scenes from other crowded scenes so much so the true image appeared doctored.

It was downright alteration and manipulation which the Barisan Nasional has employed several times and this time on a Holy Day of Ramadan Festival.

Like most religions, Islam in general, forbids lying. The Quran says, “Truly Allah guides not one who transgresses and lies.” Surah 40:28. In the Hadith, Mohammed was also quoted as saying, “Be honest because honesty leads to goodness, and goodness leads to Paradise. Beware of falsehood because it leads to immorality, and immorality leads to Hell.”

The Prime Minister’s Department should get down to investigate as to who, why and how such doctored pictures were planned to fool the masses, especially those who bought The Star.

Obviously, the picture on the front page is a composite of several images and this is what an expert media photographer who examined the picture in detail commented:

1 Sri Perdana cannot hold such a large crowd (tens of thousands as indicated in The Star’s caption line) as there picture portrays a crowd of tens of thousands.

2. Hari Raya open house is usually compose of the young, old and disabled on wheel chairs and this is not evident.

3. The venue of the crowd is the same.

4. Here is a sea of people’s an impossible crowd on Hari Raya day.

5. Most of the youths are with cameras, there must be something more exciting than Najib.

6 The pictures are doctored, primarily because some of the people in the background appear larger.

 7. Different pictures have been juxtaposed and superimposed in the doctoring process to create an impression of a large crowd.

8. This picture does not show Najib and it is a total let down in the public relations campaign to gain supporters for the Barisan.

9 Hari Raya event would usually show Najib shaking hands and meeting the people and this is lost in this picture which The Star decided to use on the front page.

10 The picture has been doctored by an amateur graphic artist.

Today, a child can apply Photoshop and easily manipulate photographs and this is an abuse of technology as it poses a serious threat to photojournalism’s credibility.

Malaysians are losing faith in such blatant lies by a Government agency like Bernama. Without credibility, we have nothing and it is a shameful act.

With new technology, faking or doctoring photographs has never been simpler, faster or more difficult to detect. Breaking news sometimes brings out people who want to fool the public with doctored images, so every journalist should know how to verify the authenticity of photos and videos.

UMNO made Indians politically irrelevant

August 24, 2012

Last week MIC president Datuk G.Palanivel expressed disappointment over the public Services Commission (PSC) for not including any Indian Malaysians in the recruitment of 21 graduates by the works ministry. In the same week Datuk G.Palanivel expressed happiness over the PSC statement that mentions of wanting to increase Indian counter staff from 1000 to 3000 at government officers. Instead of demanding for more civil service intake MIC is protecting and giving excuses for the UMNO led government. Indians taken in by civil services and local government agencies are mostly contract workers and not permanent civil servants. When the Indians were dominating health and education services Malaysia had a world class service. All these have become history. Indians must correct all these injustice by voting out the UMNO led government.

MIC sings praises each time there is an announcement of wanting to increase Indian Malaysian in civil service intake. But when there are no Indians taken in MIC is quite. Despite all the empty promises MIC, PPP and other mosquito Indian parties in BN will continue to support UMNO. In 1971 Indians were 17.4% of the civil service but this has dropped to 5.12% in 2005 and now it dropped further to 4.1%. The bulk of Indian civil servants are in Tamil schools. In the police forces Indians account for only 3%. Despite the solid support from Indians to BN before 2008, they are deceived and cheated by MIC/UMNO government. Even after 2008 UMNO has not changed its racist attitude and arrogance.

The government will say that Indians don’t apply for jobs in civil service but those non Malays in government service know how conveniently those applications are thrown into the rubbish bins. Malaysia is the only country where ethnicity is the main criteria for civil service intake and not qualifications and capability to perform. Malaysia exports talents and professionals and imports illegal and legal migrant workers. One World Bank report says that Malaysia could have attracted 5 times more FDIs if not for NEP. 1.5 million Malaysian professionals are working overseas with about half of them in Singapore. But the BN government is dreaming to form a world class civil service. As long as UMNO in power there is no hope of Indians increasing their presence in civil service?

UMNO will only take proactive actions when their vote bank is affected. They want the Indian votes but they don’t want to give a fair share to Indian community. They think Indians are beggars and therefore Indians don’t deserve any job or business opportunities except hampers and rice bags. That is MIC’s achievement after 55 years in coalition with UMNO. During elections and by elections it is MIC that distributes hampers to poor Indians on behalf of UMNO to support BN.

MIC has successfully produced stateless Indians, criminal Indians and poor and unskilled Indians. Indians need a political change. The current political system neglects and side lines Indians. UMNO made Indians politically irrelevant. This has to change. Indians must become politically relevant to play a key role in the development of this country. Indians need to redeem their dignity and pride. It’s now or never

Will the royal commission of inquiry investigate Mahathir?

August 22, 2012

Will the royal commission of inquiry investigate Mahathir?

The current prime minister has led a parliamentary select committee in 2007 on illegal immigrants to Sabah. Can the Prime Minister Datuk seri Najib Tun Razak brief the nation on the findings before creating a RCI for the same purpose? On 11 August 2012, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced the formation of the Royal Commission of Inquiry for illegal immigrants in Sabah and its 8 Terms of references.  The announcement is in response to the resignation of 3 members of parliament who said that they are resigning due to the inaction of federal government over this matter. Unless the RCI investigates the culprits responsible for treason and abuse of power, the whole effort is a political appeasement.

Former PM Tun Mahathir was directly involved and recently justified project IC. To defend the issuance of identity cards to Muslim illegal immigrants from Philippines  and Indonesia, the former prime minister Tun Mahathir Mohammad has said that “On the basis of the length of stay and mastering of the national language, they qualify to be citizens of this country, and so the acquired citizenship.” He further questioned that “why cannot the migrants of Sabah who have all these qualifications be accepted as citizens? The objections to them being accepted seem to be political,” he said. In his blog posting, Mahathir claimed that choosing not to naturalize migrants in Sabah was also racist, and that Malaysians should accept that their fellow citizens may come from different backgrounds.

Another name for this project is project Mahathir. Will the RCI investigate Mahathir and take those responsible to court? If not, this formation of RCI is another of Datuk Seri Najib’s initiatives that is intended to appease the political rumblings in Sabah. The demographic pattern changes below shows that the project was deliberately done to alter the ethnic composition in Sabah in favorable of the ruling government and certain political parties.

In 1960, the state comprised:                       In 2006, the estimated ethnic composition is

32% Kadazandusuns,                                                 25% Non-citizens,

23% Chinese,                                                           17.76% Kadazandusuns

15.8% Other Muslims,                                           14.62% Other Bumiputras

13.1% Bajaus,                                                          13.4% Bajaus

5.5% Indonesians                                                    11.48% Malays

4.9% Muruts,                                                           9.6% Chinese

1.6% Filipinos, and                                                  4.8% Others

0.4% Malays                                                        3.3% Muruts

This project IC was done under the blessing of UMNO so that the political party of their choice will rule Sabah. UMNO wanted to neutralize and split Kadazanduzun and Chinese votes in Sabah so that they become politically weak, a game UMNO is good at.

Project IC involved certain political parties as well as various government agencies including the election Commission of Malaysia, the National Registration Department and the Immigration Department, which comes under the purview of the Ministry of Home Affairs. After 6 months of investigation, GE13 would be over and everything will be back to as before. Therefore the PM should disclose the findings of earlier PSC headed by him before initialing a new PCI with Terms of Reference that will investigate who are the culprits responsible for the fiasco.

If UMNO really cares for Malaysia lets bury the ghost of May 13

August 8, 2012

After PRU 12, UMNO leaders for the first time realize that there is a possibility of losing political power in PRU 13. The racial slurs which were successful in the past to instill fear among Malaysians were openly used. Attempts were made to incite racial tensions. None of the pig head throwing incidence in mosques investigations were revealed to public by polis. On the same note those arson cases in churches across the country were also quietly closed file. Of late UMNO leaders led by DPM is stirring the May 13 boiling pot. On July 20th 2012 Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has urged youths to unite under BN to avoid another May 13 incident. Of course we cannot forget PM Datuk Seri Najib’s call in UMNO assembly to protect Putrajaya at all cost. Looks like all attempts to create feel good did not succeed. Therefore UMNO/BN is now resorting to create fear among people and hatred towards non Malays by reviving the memory of May 13 repetitively even after 43 years.

The ministry of misinformation has spend about RM4.8 million to produce the Malay film TANDA PUTRA purportedly depicting the historical facts surrounding the may 13 1969 incident. The film was scheduled for silver screening on Sept 13 but National film development board (FINAS), says it need more time for promotional activities. This film being produced by the BN government will not reveal the truth of the matter but will vilify the opposition and glorify the BN racist. History is written by victors and those in power. History textbooks in Malaysian schools will reveal how history can be distorted.

Malays who were mesmerized by UMNO have finally realized that UMNO is enriching it’s cronies in the name of Bumiputras. Datuk Seri Najib’s family and cronies, Tan Sri Muhyiddin yassin’s family and cronies, Tun mahathir’s family and cronies, Tun Abdullah Badawi’s family, Datuk sharizat’s family and many more UMNO leaders are the one who is benefiting from BN’s  rule. Educated Malays and Youths have grown out of the mental enclave of UMNO and have begun to think. UMNO cannot effort to let these groups to move away from them and lean towards PKR and PAS. Now this film seems to be another attempt to instill racial hatred towards Chinese and Indians, among Malay youths and the educated. It is heartbreaking to note that the ministry of misinformation has used taxpayer’s money to produce this distorted and prejudiced film. The producer has demonized Ipoh Timur Member of Parliament Lim Kit Siang and DAP to create hatred among Malays towards DAP and its leaders. The film may be released just before GE 13 in Malay majority areas.

Malaysians will not forgive UMNO/BN for having stooped this low to hold on to power. Malaysians of all races demand that UMNO/BN first declassify documents pertaining to May 13 for public access and form a truth and reconciliation commission to bury the ghost of May 13 once and for all. Malaysians are more educated and matured to accept the past and move forward. If the prime minister sincerely wants high income nation status by 2020, he must get rid and bury this May 13 ghost.

As Malaysia is a member of the United Nation General Assembly since 1957, it has to adhere to the Declaration on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. All Malaysians are here to stay and not migrate anywhere else. The sooner UMNO realise the faster Malaysia will move towards high developed nation status.

The Beginning of end of the longest ruling party in the world.

August 8, 2012

The United Malays National Organization (UMNO) is the longest continuing ruling party in the world. For the past 55 years, retirement age, Malaysian is ruled by UMNO/BN. Since PRU 13 is round the corner, Malaysian voters have to decide whether they deserve a better government. Quite a number may think that a known devil is better than an unknown devil and continue to suffer the racial discrimination and nepotism under the UMNO government. There is a saying that the opposition never wins but the ruling party that loses. All long ruling parties have eventually faced defeat. The congress of India, LDP of Japan, Golkar of Indonesia are all crumbling. They are just hanging on to power. The current political development in Malaysia seems to indicate the beginning of end of the longest ruling party in the world.

UMNO/BN which has monopolistic control over the country’s finances, government machinery and the mean stream electronic and newsprint media is struggling to get the political situation under control. They have no experience facing a resurrected and energetic opposition which seems to successfully blunt all tricks and evil designs of the ruling party. UMNO/BN is petrified and panicking over the possibility of defeat for the first time. Datuk Najib Tun Razak is spending taxpayer’s money to buy votes in broad daylight without any sense of accountability and reservation. Despite the high level of national debts cash is being handed out to buy votes and illegal and legal foreign workers are registered as voters. The ghost of May 13 is raised again to frighten voters into voting UMNO/BN back to power. BN’s political tool are Christianization, Chinese take over power, hudud law, Singapore, Malays loss power etc. These tools are used selectively used with the support of tightly controlled mainstream media.

1.5 million Professional Malaysians left the country to work overseas but about 4 million illegal and legal foreign unskilled workers are here to compete and stagnate unskilled worker’s salaries. 34% of Malaysian workers earn less Rm700 which is below poverty level. 80% of Malaysian workers earn below RM3000. Malaysian workers have lesser right compared to 50 years ago. Laws are enacted to limit workers rights and allow employers reap more profits. The gap between rich and poor is widening further and further. Costs of living have increased by leaps and bounds. This week alone medical fee and legal documentation fees have increased steeply.

Whoever wins the next election will have a tough job of balancing the 4.7% budget which is continuously under deficit since 1998. After 55 years Malaysia still don’t have free and fair election. People have to go to the streets to demand for genuine electoral process. Racism, nepotism and corruption seem institutionalized and the ruling party doesn’t have a clue how to eradicate them. Whistleblowers are arrested but criminals are allowed to roam around freely. The important questions voters need to decide in this election are:

  1. Can the party that wins in GE 13 lead country to become more competitive in the turbulent economic conditions?
  2. Can the new government unite Malaysians and get rid of race politics?
  3. Is our economy growing at a rate that will bring in more employment and wealth creation?
  4. Can the new government reduce corruption and budget deficit?
  5. Can new government improve the standard of education and reduce brain drain?
  6. Can the new government transform the civil service to formulate and delivery efficient services?

Recent survey shows that poorer Malaysians vote for those who give money like BRIM RM500.  Nobody will give money for nothing. Indians should not sell their votes but vote for a government that will protect their children and grandchildren. Malaysian Indians need a political system that gives us equal opportunity and equal citizenship. We need a political change in GE 13. It’s now or never.
